A 2014 comScore study found that people consumed 60 percent of their digital media on smartphones and 52 percent specifically on apps.

That was the same year that the number of mobile users surpassed the number of desktop users in the US.

From 2014 to 2015, Americans’ app time increased by 20 percent.

Web sites are still vital, but people are spending less time on desktops and more time with smartphones and tablets.

An OfCom Market Report, referencing the comScore Mobile Metrix, revealed that Americans spend an average of 87 hours a month on their smartphones. That’s a little over two weeks’ time at a  full-time job. In comparison, they spend only 34 hours on desktop computers.

First, business owners learned that they needed a strong online presence. Then we took on social media and learned to promote, tweet, post, and pin content suitable for each platform. Now it’s already time to take the next step in technological innovation: mobile apps.

Websites Are Essential But They Aren’t Enough

Smartphones allow users to browse the web anywhere at any time. But now, we’re finding that people prefer to use native apps. The same comScore report above found that 85 percent of users like apps better than mobile websites.

Big corporations, including most major banks, already have their own apps. Small businesses that are ahead of the curve do too.
